Under Development…

Update!

March 2021:

Well. This has been a while, hasn’t it? What a year 2020 was. My husband and I spent 2019 and Q1 of 2020 renovating our house to sell it, and if you’ve ever done that, you know how much work it can be. Between all the repairs, painting, cleaning, and packing–and then constantly keeping it clean once we went on the market–to say nothing of driving around touring houses ourselves and just having the kids at home because of the pandemic, I got precious little writing done for the longest time. I finally sat myself down for NaNoWriMo 2020 and cranked through the sequel to Blaze (Ilona), and now I’m trying to revise that draft before moving on to planning Book III, all to make sure I’ve laid the right groundwork in Blaze before I begin querying it.

In the meantime, I’ve worked on some side projects with it, for times when I can’t be in front of the computer: a map of the Realm and lyrics (and even the music) to a folk ballad. Those have been a lot of fun.

Datura is on hold for now, since about mid 2018 after a post-editing revision. Depression is a bitch, and Datura’s dark theme made it that much harder to work on, so I switched back to my Guardians series, because it’s much lighter and I missed those characters. I’ll pick Datura up again later at some point. I feel like it’s nearly done, anyway. I just need to reconnect with it and market it to some literary magazines.

January 2018:

My nightmare-inspired story has taken priority over Blaze and everything else, but it is finally wrapping to a conclusion. You can read more about Datura Desperation while I finish up this next revision and give my editor a go at it.

The sci-fi piece mentioned below is still pending loads and loads of research. If you know an astronomer, astronaut, or other space-brainy type person eager to contribute to literary space flights of fancy (or fantasy), feel free to direct them my way!

I also have several other potential story lines tucked away in a notes app on my phone. At least one is genuinely, freakishly bizarre, possibly the sort of thing that could get bound with Datura Desperation for a small collection of shorter stories.

August 2016:

I have two other adult story ideas still in the very early stages of development.

One will be a science fiction story–perhaps a series–and I’ll share more details on that as I get some work done on it. It’s going to take quit a bit of astronomy research… significantly more than I can get from watching Ready, Jet, Go on PBS with my kids.

The other seems to be taking priority. While I didn’t get much done on it over the winter, I’m hoping to split my writing time between it and Blaze. The bare bones of it are already fleshed out courtesy of a nightmare, but I’ve already got a good start on it, and I’m going to begin outlining the rest very soon. Details on it (and how you can help if you’re interested) are available in this blog post. I don’t expect it to turn out to be a full length novel, perhaps a short story or novella at best, and it may be the kind of thing I submit to an anthology instead of publishing it solo. But it will get written one way or another.
